Redefining the legal office

Reed Smith sought to reimagine the often traditional look of legal offices with Blossom Yard. Its balanced layout blends open-plan areas with cellular offices to promote inclusivity and modernity. Spanning eight floors, the space prioritises comfort and hospitality, with a strong focus on both client and staff experience. Generous entertaining areas further break from the conventional legal office aesthetic, while a blend of open-plan and private spaces fosters a flexible, collaborative work environment that reflects a modern approach to workplace design.

A new aesthetic

The building’s design preserves key industrial features, such as pulleys, steel sliding doors, and ceiling beams, seamlessly integrating the past with the present. TP Bennett embraced this living history, using it as a foundation to create a more intimate, domestic atmosphere than typically found in legal offices. To support this vision, we worked closely with the design team to select furniture that complemented the functionality of each space while aligning with the desired aesthetic.

We specified pieces from Scandinavian brands such as Gubi, Fritz Hansen, and Muuto, choosing materials and colours — like warm pinks, reds, and sage greens — that enhanced the design intent and created a welcoming, modern environment. Several bespoke pieces were created, including a curved sofa designed by our in-house team to coordinate with custom joinery, and bespoke rugs, ensuring the furniture integrated seamlessly with the space and building design.

Smart material and product choices

Reed Smith’s vision for Blossom Yard focused on creating a workspace that met high environmental standards, with the goal of achieving BREEAM Excellent certification. To support this, material selection was key throughout the furniture specification process, ensuring the use of FSC-certified wood and low VOC content finishes.

We also repurposed a range of task chairs and seating from the client’s previous offices, maintaining a more impact-driven approach while staying within budget. This strategy enabled investment in key new design elements, enhancing the office’s aesthetic and contributing to the inviting, comfortable atmosphere central to the client’s brief.
