Embracing circularity through reuse

Having previously supported Inmarsat’s City Road office, where we specified high-quality, timeless furniture, we were able to repurpose many of these pieces for the new space. Our approach involved a complete furniture reuse solution, including an in-depth audit and quality analysis of the existing office furniture. This also included detailed workshops with the client and design team to determine the best placements for the reused items, as well as reupholstery, cleaning, and refurbishment to ensure they were in excellent condition.

As a result, new and repurposed furniture were seamlessly integrated throughout the design, with approximately 40% of the total furniture being repurposed. This strategy not only supported the client’s goal of achieving BREEAM Excellent certification but also helped complete the project within budget.

Bespoke tech-enabled solutions

Given the nature of Viasat’s work, bespoke solutions were essential to meet the advanced technological needs of their new office. In the operations centres, we developed custom desks designed to accommodate Viasat’s large, specialised curved screens, along with tailored storage solutions, bespoke cable management, and AV integration to support the space’s high-tech requirements. The boardroom was also furnished with bespoke pieces to create a seamless, high-performance environment that aligns with Viasat’s innovative operations.

Wellbeing-driven design

Employee wellbeing was central to the design of the new office, with the goal of creating a more agile, supportive, and dynamic work environment. Employees can socialise at the rooftop bar or unwind on the spacious terrace, while the medical room and gym reinforce the company’s commitment to health and wellness. The office also offers quiet spaces, including a multi-faith room and a dedicated relaxation area for moments of calm. To enhance this holistic approach, a range of colours were carefully selected to adapt to high and low activity levels, with higher activity areas in warm and red tones (project rooms) and lower activity areas cooler blue (meeting rooms), along with greenery providing a refreshing atmosphere. The relaxation area was furnished with daybeds and lounge chairs to help employees decompress.

Seamless transition plan

For the delivery and installation, we implemented a phased move-out programme, allowing employees to continue working in the existing office while preparations for the new space were underway. Floors were closed progressively, with each furniture move carefully coordinated to ensure a smooth transition. In addition to managing moves between the old and new offices, we oversaw internal relocations within the old office, moving desks and chairs between spaces as needed to accommodate the transition.
